Location

Leratong,Gauteng Province, South Africa
From the intersection of the R41and R558, (Leratong Hospital), travel south along the R558 for 3.5km to a cluster of industrial buildings (Buildit Vlakfontein).
The Jameson Raid Surrender Memorial is between R558 and the access road to Buildit.

The Surrender Memorial is inscribed in Afrikaans and English:

JAMESON RAID
FOLLOWING A BRIEF ENGAGEMENT ON THE
2nd JANUARY 1896, A FORCE OF APPROXIMATELY
600 RAIDERS LED BY Dr. L. STARR JAMESON
AND SIR JOHN WILLOUGHBY, SURRENDERED HERE
TO THE BURGER FORCES OF THE S.A. REPUBLIC
UNDER THE COMMAND OF COMMANDANTS  P.A. CRONJE,
F.J. POTGIETER, H.P. MALAN AND COLONEL
S.P.E. TRICHARDT OF THE STATE ARTILLERY.

Location

The Vlakfontein Memorial is in the veld behind Buildit Vlakfontein, approximately 200 meters from the Surrender Memorial.

The Vlakfontein Memorial is inscribed:
VLAKFONTEIN
IN LOVING MEMORY OF THOSE WHO FELL ON
2nd JANUARY 1896

and lists 26 names from both sides who died as a result of the Jameson Raid.

Stump Memorial

There used to be a memorial on a tree stump marking the site of the cottage from where Dr Jameson surrendered.
Traces of the memorial and the cottage have disappeared.
