West Park Cemetery Commonwealth War Graves and Cremation Memorial

Montgomery Park, Johannesburg, Gauteng Province, South Africa

The entrance to the West Park Cemetery is at the junction of Beyers Naude Drive and West Park Road.

Inside the cemetery, take the first road to the right and drive 740 metres. The Commonwealth War Graves Plot is on your left. The Cremation Memorial is behind the Cross of Sacrifice.

Significance
The West Park Cemetery contains 617 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War.

There are also 21 war graves of other nationalities and seven non-war burials in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's care. Some military graves are scattered around the cemetery.

The Cremation Memorial commemorates servicemen and women who were cremated in Johannesburg during the Second World War.

The Cremation Memorial is inscribed:
"THOSE WHOSE NAMES ARE RECORDED HERE DIED
IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY AND WERE CREMATED."
