Significance
The Memorial was built to commemorate the Rand Regiments of the Anglo Boer War.

It is inscribed on the architrave (the horizontal stone band above the main arch opening):

TO RAND MEN WHO FELL IN THE
SOUTH AFRICAN WAR 1899 1902

The Foundation Stone inscription reads

The date 31 November 1909 on the Foundation Stone appears to be a stonemason's error
The summit figure on top of the Memorial is a bronze Angel of Peace

The Memorial was rededicated in 1999 as an Anglo Boer War Memorial.
A plaque on the west side of the Memorial unveiled on 10 October 1999 is inscribed:
ON 10 OCTOBER 1999
THIS MEMORIAL WAS
DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY
OF THE MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN
OF ALL RACES AND ALL NATIONS
WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN
THE ANGLO BOER WAR
