Enter the park from Paterson Road. Follow the road to a 3-way stop. The centre road leads into the park. The Memorial is approximately 35 metres from the road.

The Memorial Cross is inscribed:

TO THE MEMORY OF 
THE OFFICERS, NCO'S AND MEN OF THE 3rd SA INF
TRANSVAAL REGT WHO FELL DURING THE BATTLE
OF THE SOMME IN OCTOBER 1916.

The plinth is inscribed:

THIS CROSS ERECTED IN 1917 AT THE BUTTE 
DE WARLENCOURT WAS PRESENTED BY THE 
SURVIVING OFFICERS, NCO'S AND MEN OF THE  
3RD S.A.I (TRANSVAAL AND RHODESIAN) REGT. 
THE NAMES OF THE FALLEN ARE INSCRIBED 
IN ALL SOULS CHAPEL

All Souls Chapel in the Cathedral of St Mary the Virgin, on the corner of Wanderers and De Villiers Streets, opposite the Johannesburg Park Station, was built as a memorial to Witwatersrand soldiers who fell in the First World War. Their names are inscribed on panels on the Apse walls.
