South African Heavy Artillery Memorial (71st (Transvaal) Siege Battery)

Location
Johannesburg, Gauteng Province, South Africa.

The Memorial is in the Johannesburg Zoo at the corner of Jan Smuts Avenue and Upper Park Drive in Parkview, Johannesburg.
The main public entrance is on Upper Park Drive.
In the Zoo, follow Gorilla Walk into Monkey Lane and then into Cat Walk.
The Memorial is outside the Education Centre next to the stairs.

GPS 26 deg 10 min 6.7 sec S, 28 deg 2 min 2.5 sec E

Significance
This Memorial is one of 6 commemorating the men from the South African Heavy Artillery.

The inscription reads:
"Erected by the Officers, NCOs and Men of the South African Heavy Artillery
in memory of their comrades who fell in The Great War 1914-1918".

The gun is a 6 inch 26 cwt howitzer, which were in service during both World Wars.
