Significance
The South African Police was responsible for containing the violent labour unrest on the East Rand known as the Rand Revolt,
also known as the Rand Rebellion or the 1922 Miners' Strike,
until Martial Law was declared on 10 March 1922 and the Union Defence Force was deployed to suppress the Revolt.
Captain Halse was one of the two of the policemen killed during the Rand Revolt who are buried in Port Elizabeth.
Captain Halse was Killed in Action in Benoni on 12 March 1922.

In memory Of My Beloved Husband Capt Harry Halse SAP Who was Killed in Action On the Rand On the 12th March 1922 At the age of 46 "Thy Will Be Done"
