Significance
A British Force under Colonel Robert Kekewich consisting of largely of the 1st Scottish Horse commanded by Major Henry Leader captured the Boer Commando under Commandant Sarel Alberts on the farm Gruisfontein in the Lichtenburg district on 5 February 1902. This action is an example of the increasing effectiveness of British tactics in the late stages of the Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902.
