Situated in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa

The cemetery is located next to the Old Provost on the Rhodes University Campus, Lucas Avenue, Grahamstown and is accessible to the public

Significance
The Grahamstown Botanical Gardens Cemetery is a small but historically significant military and civilian burial ground dating from 1819 to 1822.
The earliest grave is that of Captain Robert Gethin, who died on 3 February 1819.
The inscriptions on the remaining headstones range from relatively clear to unreadable because of weathering and the growth of lichen on them
