Significance
Andrew Beauchamp-Proctor, VC, DSO, MC and Bar, DFC was South Africa's leading ace of the First World War, being credited with 54 aerial victories.

He was killed in an accident in England in 1921 while serving in the Royal Air Force.

His body was re-interred in his hometown, Mafeking (now Mahikeng).
