Thank you for sending the June 2006 copy of the Military History Journal which contains the introductory memoirs of the Second World War of my late husband, Arthur Candy. The title and the eight illustrations you used were brilliant. I will treasure the journal.
The role HMSAS Gamtoos salvage ship played in the Mediterranean zone of war was indeed stupendous. It gave me a new perspective on how battles, even wars, are won.

I was very interested to note in the June 2006 edition of the Military History Journal, pp 168-73, the article 'Maritzburg to Mareopolis', the story of Lt H A Candy. The Unit in which he served was 1 st Field Brigade, from January 1942 known as 1st Field Regiment (PAOCFA) and from October 1943 as 1/6 Field Regiment. It is known today as Cape Field Artillery and the regiment turns 150 years old in August 2007! It is the senior regiment of South Africa's Reserve Force ...
