The South African
This will be my tenth Military History Journal as Editor and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the sub-editors, Marjorie Dean, Robin Smith and Brian Culross for the many hours they put in for each issue.
The most important people are however the authors whose contributions create the magazine. It was started in 1967 as an avenue for members, especially amateur historians, to publish the results of their research. It has always striven to cover a wide field and this issue is no different.
The Anglo-Boer War and a contemporary query feature, but most of this issue is about World War II: a tribute to a fighting airman, songs, a personal memoir from a Society Elder. Since 2025 is the eightieth anniversary of VE Day, an article about a South African commemoration and cover photos are included.
I hope you enjoy the read!
