This 100th issue of the Military History Journal is a tribute to the members of the South African Military History Society whose interest in and commitment to the study of military history have sustained the journal. Furthermore, it is also a tribute to the contributors who have seen it as a worthy vehicle for disseminating their knowledge. This success is due to the skill and commitment of the editors who have made the journal the high-quality publication that it is.
The society, with the vehicle of the journal, has met Sir Basil Liddell Hart's criterion of studying military history in breadth and depth. It has also gone a long way to meet his admonishment: 'If you want peace, understand war.'
