Information about joining Society activites

  • The SA Military History Society is a society of enthusiasts dedicated to the study of military aspects of South Africa's history.
  • The Society was founded more than 50 years ago and currently has approximately 400 members in South Africa and globally.
  • The Society has branches in Johannesburg, Cape Town,Durban and Port Elizabeth which generally hold monthly meetings.
  • Recently the Society has started a Zoom initiative with three meetings monthly involving members from all over the world.
  • Each branch produces a monthly newsletter which is circulated to branch members.
  • Branches organise tours to battlefields at regular intervals
  • The Society produces two editions of the South Africamn Military History Journal annually. The journal is a medium where research can be published. It is collected by many reference libraries and historians globally. Members each receive a copy of the journal via post.
  • The Society provides a forum where knowledgable members and experts can address the meetings on the topic of their research.
  • Branches organise tours to battlefields at regular intervals
  • Subscriptions for 2022 in South Africa are approximately R300 and for overseas depending on postal rates, approximately $38.

    • The Society publishes two editions of the Journal each year where researchers can publish their findings.
