The Chairman, Professor Copley, began the December meeting of the Society with a short slide-illustrated account of the Society's outings during 1991 - Pretoria forts; Diamond Hill forts; Rietfontein cemetery, Silkaats and Commando Nek.
The main speaker of the evening was Captain Ivor Little who gave a fascinating talk entitled "The U S Navy and the Revolutionary War of 1776". His often amusing account of the war at sea, also dealt briefly with the development of the modern U S Navy from these comparatively humble beginnings.
The January meeting commenced with an interesting short talk by Mr Avram Pelunsky on "Early Military Wireless with some South African associations".
The main speaker Mr Achilles Kallos then addressed the members on the sublect of the Greek War of Independence 1821. The War, which lasted 8 years, finally freed Greece from Turkish domination.
