NOVEMBER 1991 NEWSLETTER

The October meeting of the Society commenced with a short talk on the restoration of the Focke Wulfe by Captain Tony Speir. His well-illustrated and illuminating presentation provided members wlth some insight into the years of research and work which are involved in returning an exhibit of this nature to its original and pristine condition.

The Chainman thanked Captain Speir for his contribution and presented the main speaker of the evening, Prof O B Saddington who addressed the Society on the subject of "Roman Frontier Defences in Britain". Prof Saddington conducted the members on a fascinating journey from the establishment of the Empire through to an in depth and individually illustrated description of the walls and fortifications erected during the occupation.

Dr Peter Rush thanked the speaker.

Braai

The Society braai was held on Friday, 18th October and was enjoyed immensely by all present.

Book sale

Members are reminded of the fund-raising book sale to be held at the Museum on Saturday and Sunday the 7th and 8th of December.

Publications

Members are advised that "Inside Story" by Ike Rosmarin is available at the CNA. Mr Rosmarin will be addressing the Society on the subject of his experiences as a prisoner-of-war in October 1992. Proceeds of the sale of the book will go to the Red Cross Children's Hospital.

50th Anniversary - El Alamein Tour

A tour has been arranged, scheduled for October 1992. The tour will last approximately 18 days and will encompass visits to Alamein, Matruh, Cairo, Alexandria, a trip down the Nile to Luxor and several days in Israel.
