CAPE TOWN BRANCH

NOVEMBER 1990

THE FINAL MEETING IN 1990 WILL TAKE PLACE AS DETAILED BELOW IN THE DU TOIT ROOM OF THE ATHENAEUM 154 CAMPGROUND ROAD, NEWLANDS,AT 8 P.M.

TOPIC: "THE GERMAN OCCUPATION OF THE CHANNEL ISLANDS", a slide-illustrated talk by MR. ALAN NATHAN.

Though a German invasion of Britain at first seemed a certainty in 1940, the victory achieved by Dowding's famed "Few" of the Royal Air Force in the Battle of Britain put paid to Hitler's plans and he turned instead on Russia, with rather disastrous results for the Third Reich. Yet a portion of Britain WAS actually occupied by German Forces - the Channel Islands, giving rise to one of the more unusual stories to come out of World War Two.
