JOHANNESBURG

The November meeting commenced with the second part of Ian Uys's review of the events that occurred during the Great Trek.

Members who attended the November meeting will be pleased to hear that Terry Leaver, who became ill at the comrnencement of his lecture, has made a full recovery. It is hoped that his lecture will be repeated in the New Year.

Tour of Coastal Artillery Sites in the Cape Peninsula.

The Cape Town branch of the Society recently held a one day tour to the coastal artillery sites in the Cape Peninsula and have kindly extended an invitation for a repeat tour to other members and friends who are in the Cape Town area over the December holiday period.

If you contact them they will attempt to arrange a mutually convenient date for the tour. The tour will take approximately one whole day. The programme is likely to include the Lion Battery on Signal Hill, the "noon gun", Apostle Battery at Llandudno, East Fort at Hout Bay and Lower North and Queen's Batteries at Simon's Town.

- December 8th - Film evening - "The Great Escape".

- January 12th - Mrs. Jenny O'Connor - "The Canadians at Vimy Ridge, 1917".

The Johannesburg Meetings take place in the J.C. Lemmer Auditorium, S.A. National Museum of Military History, Saxonwold, Johannesburg at 20h00.

Durban

- December - In recess.

Cape Town

- November - In recess.
