THE NEXT TWO MEETINGS TAKE PLACE AS INDICATED BELOW, IN THE DU TOIT ROOM OF THE ATHENAEUM, 154 CAMPGROUND ROAD, NEWLANDS, COMMENCING AT 8 P.M.

THURSDAY 14TH MAY: An illustrated presentation by MR. PAUL LANGE in which a number of unusual and unorthodox military aircraft of World Wars One & Two will be examined, including the British anti-airship fighter intended to stay aloft for 12 hours, one of whose design team was Reginald Mitchell who later achieved fame with his Supermarine racing seaplane and immortal "Spitfire";
the World War Two American single-seat high altitude interceptor whose cockpit was so high off the ground that it required an electrically operated seat, functioning as a lift, to carry the pilot from ground level outside the aircraft, up and into the cockpit; the Netherlands fighter which contained two engines, one in front of the cockpit and the other behind;
the German bomber which was intended to cross the Atlantic from bases in occupied Europe to attack New York and other major American cities;
the Japanese fighter whose engines were cooled by steam vapour led to condensers in the wings;
and the Russian bi-plane fighter which could converted in flight to a monoplane by the retraction of the lower wings.

THURSDAY 11TH JUNE: "SIMON'S BAY UNDER THE DUTCH FLAG: 1743 TO 1795", an illustrated talk by MR. DAN SLEIGH, covering, amongst other aspects, services and functions, administration, staff (almost 100% military and naval), buildings, logistics and defence, ships and their crews and cargoes, as well as the functions of the supporting outposts of Muizenberg and Fish Hoek.
