THE FINAL MEETING FOR 1983 TAKES PLACE AT 8 P.M. ON THURSDAY 10TH NOVEMBER IN THE DU TOIT ROOM OF THE ATHENAEUM, 154 CAMPGROUND ROAD, NEWLANDS
DOCUMENTARY FILM SHOW:
"VIETNAM: AN HISTORICAL DOCUMENT". The war in Vietnam has left indelible marks on the North American Nation and the long and painful conflict will probably influence the country's policies for years to corne. Even in comparatively recent times, under the Reagan Presidency, fear has been expressed in view of certain American international involvements lest the Nation becomes "involved in another Vietnam". Compiled from a vast range of TV newsreel material shot by C.B.S. TV cameramen, this film covers the years of American involvement in Vietnam. Starting with the French withdrawal from Indo-China in 1954 and ending with President Ford's declaration that as far as America was concerned, the war was finished, it employs various C.B.S. correspondents, headed by Walter Cronkite, to trace developments through the years and to enable the viewer to see the conflict in historical perspective.
NOTE: The film has been made available through the assistance of the Cape Provincial Library Service via the Cape Town City Library Service, to whom the Society expresses its sincere appreciation.
