THURSDAY 14TH JULY: Major M.J. Mitchell presents the second and final part of his illustrated talk on his World War Two experiences as a S.A.A.F. Pilot in South Africa, the Western Desert and overseas.

THURSDAY 11TH AUGUST: "FROM TSAR TO STALIN", a 1.5 hour documentary film depicting aspects of the life of Tsar Nicholas the Second, the fall of his empire, the rise of Communism and the return to despotism under Stalin. The footage featured was taken over a period of 35 years, mostly by the Tsar's official cameraman, the German General Staff, and even by the Tsar himself.

Persons who have not yet been to the Athenaeum should note that it is a vintage converted dwelling with an unusual spire and with several chimneys, situated near the Claremont Pick 'n Pay Centre, next to Newlands Railway Station, below the line, at the foot of the road-over-rail bridge, close to the Newlands cricket grounds and Kelvin Grove.
