The next two meetings take place as indicated below, commencing at 8 p.m., in the DU TOIT ROOM OF THE ATHENAEUM, 154 CAMPGROUND ROAD, NEWLANDS.


THURSDAY 9TH JANUARY: Dr. Frank Mitchell will display some of the many medals contained in his collection & will present a slide-illustrated talk about them and about their recipients. This will be preceeded briefly by the Ennascope screening of some actual photographs taken of South African troops in action in German South West Africa during World War One, contained in an album owned by the Chairman.

THURSDAY 13TH FEBRUARY: Brigadier Jack Penn (Rtd.), F.R.C.S., M.B.E., SM, will talk on "THE STORY OF MILITARY PLASTIC SURGERY".


FUTURE PROGRAMMES:.

THURSDAY 6TH MARCH: "The Tobruk Run", a talk by Mr. Louis Ribbink on the part played by the Navy during this particular World War Two period;

THURSDAY 10TH APRIL: Annual General Meeting, followed by a documentary film biography on Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 32nd President of the United States, and his role during World War Two;

TUESDAY 20TH MAY (special date): the Athenaeum will be closed on Thursday 8th May, a Public Holiday, but a joint meeting will be held instead with the Cape Town Aviation Enthusiasts' Club in the J.P. Duminy Rotary Hall, right next door to the Athenaeum;

THURSDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER: a talk by Mr. Patrick Cullinan on "COLONEL R.J. GORDON AND HIS DIARIES".


PROMOTION TO HIGHER SERVICE: The Branch Executive records its regret at the passing away on 3rd December of its Hon. Secretary/Treasurer, Mr. Rento Garschagen, whose contribution to the well-being of the Branch from the time that he took office in October 1980 was a major one for which he is owed a very real debt of gratitude. A likeable, loyal, hardworking colleague and friend, he will be much missed and long remembered.

ACTING HON. TREASURER: Mr. Alan Nathan has been co-opted to serve in such capacity till the Annual General Meeting in April 1986. His address is: nnn Lancaster, Marlborough Park, Bath Road, CLAREMONT 7700 & he may be contacted telephonically at home on 61-nnnn.

ACTING HON. SECRETARY: Secretarial responsibilities will be taken care of for the time being by the Chairman.
