The next two meetings take place as indicated below, commencing at 8 p.m.,
in the DU TOIT ROOM of the ATHENAEUM, 154 CAMPGROUND ROAD, NEWLANDS.


THURSDAY 11TH JULY: "THE CAPE TOWN HIGHLANDERS". Willem Steenkamp, well-known Cape Town journalist and author, who is an officer in the Cape Town Highlanders, will talk on its history since being raised on 24th April 1885, and on the part it currently plays in the modern-day defence context.

THURSDAY 8TH AUGUST: Documentary film show -
(a) "GET THE GRAF SPEE!", an epic naval event of World War Two;
(b) "SCOTT'S LAST JOURNEY", the story of Captain Scott, Royal Navy, and his ill-fated expedition to the South Pole. Fascinating film sequences and photographs taken by Herbert Ponting, the expedition's photographer, form the major part of the film.

MILITARY HISTORY SOCIETY MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO VISITORS.


SOUVENIR BROCHURE OF HISTORICAL INTEREST: The Society's attention has been drawn to the availability of copies of a souvenir brochure of the ceremony of the freedom of Entry to the City of Cape Town granted to the Cape field Artillery, the Cape Town Rifles (Dukes), the Cape Town Highlanders, and S.A.S. Unitie on 10th October 1967.
